Scruton Mini Food Festival 2023

Sunday's Food Festival was a great success, despite a lower than hoped for turnout, and we would like to repeat and expand on the idea next year. We expect to have raised over £300 for the Assocation, which will help with ongoing work on sheds and fencing. A big thank you to everyone who contributed with their time, effort and produce, and to those who were able to attend the event.

Gilly Robinson 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Gilly, from The Cook's Place Malton, along with Joe Lofthouse, demonstrated a number of cookery techniques and dishes made from locally grown vegetables, including some from the allotments, with dishes available for tasting in between. They also had plenty of useful advice for growing and cooking, and a few memorable anecdotes along the way. All in all, a very entertaining, and tasty, afternoon 😋. We are very grateful for Gilly's contribution to the event and will be liasing with her about next year too.

Chris Snell Potato Challenge 🥔

Out of around 25 potatoes taken, 13 survived for the weigh-in on Sunday and these ranged from 0.4kg to the winner at 2.38kg (4.9lbs), grown by Richard Zealley. Thanks to Ian and Janice for sorting and weighing the entries. You can view the full results here.

Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin 🎃

Bob Scorer kindly lent one of his pumpkins for this, which took quite a lot of effort, and a wheelbarrow, to get to into the village hall. There were 23 guesses ranging from 12kg (26lb) to 76.2Kg (12st). The winner, closest to the actual weight of 24.5kg (54lbs), was Lynda Venus.

Produce Stall 🫑🍅🪴🌿🌻

A great range of fruit, vegetables and plants were on sale on the stall, run by Elizabeth, and this contributed over £75.

Juicing 🍏🍎🍐

Andy Venus set up his juicing equipment and had a number of takers for juicing apples and pears.

Bar & Drinks 🍻🍷🥛

A free drink was offered with each ticket, with more available during the afternoon. Thanks to Syd for doing a great job keeping people refreshed.
